'Pacific Rim' scribes rewriting 'God of War'

Universal's forthcoming adaptation of the popular "God of War" video game series has a pair of new writers.

The first game was released in 2005.
Heat Vision is reporting that Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan have been brought in to rewrite the script first written by executive producer David Self.

Melton and Dunstan's most recent project is director Guillermo del Toror's "Pacific Rim," but they are perhaps best known for writing four of the "Saw" films.

Published by Sony Computer Entertainment, "God of War" puts gamers in control of Spartan warrior Kratos, who battled numerous mythology monsters along with the Greek pantheon. The first game was released in 2005 with "God of War II" arriving in 2007 and "God of War III" in 2010. A prequel, "God of War: Ascension," is set for release in March 2013.

As of June, the series has sold more than 21 million copies worldwide.

As for the movie, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are producing through Atlas Entertainment.
