Guillermo del Toro interested in 'Hellboy 3'

Director Guillermo del Toro was Comic-Con this weekend to talk about his upcoming film "Pacific Rim," but he also dropped some news about another one of his franchises when he said he was interested in pursuing a "Hellboy 3."

It's been four year since "Hellboy II."
Del Toro told Entertainment Weekly, "I can say publicly that now we are together in trying [to make 'Hellboy 3']."

Actor Ron Perlamn, who portrayed Hellboy in both films, added, " “The two movies were really set up to have this unbelievable resolve. “Everything that was done in both movies was leading up to this destiny, written in stone, of what Hellboy has been summoned to Earth to do. To not do it, particularly in light of the scope that Guillermo is thinking of for the resolve, would be in my mind a little bit of a shame.”

Based on the comics by Mike Mignola, "Hellboy" was written and directed by del Toro and released in 2004. The sequel, "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" followed in 2008.

In addition to Perlman, the films starred Selma Blair as Liza Sherman and Doug Jones as Abe Sapien.

"Hellboy II" was somewhat of a box office disapointment, grossing only $75 million domestically, although it was an improvement over the original, which earned $59 million four years earlier.

'Fantastic Four' reboot has director, screenwriter

With news streaming out of the San Diego Comic Con, it has been revealed this week that Fox's reboot of the "Fantastic Four" film series now has a director and a writer on board.

Fantastic Four debuted in 1961.
Deadline first reported Wednesday that "Chronicle" director Josh Tank has been signed to direct the reboot, which is set to feature a new cast and will follow "The Wolverine" and the "X-Men: First Class" sequel in the studio's production schedule.

On the heels of that report, Heat Vision announced today (Friday) that writer Jeremy Slater is finalizing a deal to join the project as well. Slater has several projects in the pipeline, including the H.P. Lovecraft-inspired "Tape 4" and the teen spy comedy "My Spy."

"Fantastic Four" was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, debuting in 1961. The superhero team consisting of Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Sue Storm (the Invisible Woman), Johnny Storm (the Human Torch) and Ben Grimm (the Thing), gained their powers after being exposed to cosmic rays.

The "Fantastic Four" film was released in 2005 with Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards, Jessica Alba as Sue Storm, Chris Evans as Johnny Storm and Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm. The film grossed $330 million and was followed in 2007 by "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer."

Like the "Spider-Man," "X-Men" and "Daredevil" franchises, the "Fantastic Four" film rights are not held by Marvel or its parent company Disney, so if Fox and others do not continue to make use of those rights, they will revert.

Evans subsequently starred in Marvel's "Captain American," reprising the role in this summer's "The Avengers."

'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay' will be split in two

Although rumors of Lionsgate splitting the third and final book in Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games" trilogy into two films have been swirling since last summer, the studio made it official this week when it announced two separate release dates for the forthcoming adaptation.

Mockingjay concludes the series.
"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" will be released Nov. 21, 2014, while "Part 2" will arrive 12 months later on Nov. 20, 2015.

Production is set to get underway soon on the second novel of the trilogy, "Catching Fire," with the film set for release on Nov. 22, 2013. The film will be directed by Francis Lawrence, who is replacing "The Hunger Games" director Gary Ross

Actor Michael Fassbender is set to star and co-produce "Assassin's Creed," based on the Ubisoft's video game series.

'Spider-Man' rules over Fourth of July box office

"The Amazing Spider-Man" dominated the Fourth of July holiday, grossing $23.3 million on Wednesday after debuting Tuesday with a record-breaking $34.1 million.

The film earned $34 million Wednesday.
The reboot's first-day haul was the highest Tuesday opening ever, topping the original "Transformers," which grossed $27.8 million in 2007. The film's Wednesday take was the second highest non-opening Wednesday ever, this time falling behind "Transformers," which grossed $29 million on its second day.

The fast start puts "The Amazing Spider-Man" on track to have a very solid first weekend, when it will face the additional competition of "Katy Perry's Part of Me" and director Oliver Stone's "Savages."

In second place for Wednesday was last weekend's headliner, "Ted," which actually fell slightly from Tuesday with $8 million.

Pixar's "Brave" and "Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection," on the other hand, both benefitted from the mid-week holiday, bringing home $6.4 million and $3.1 million respectively, both double-digit percentage point increases.

Showing R-ratings and the Fourth of July aren't necessarily a good mix, "Magic Mike" also dropped from Tuesday to Wednesday, grossing $3 million, and rounding out the top five.

Mulan joins 'Once Upon a Time'

For its first season, ABC's "Once Upon a Time" relied on Western fairy tales for its characters, but that appears to be changing for Season Two.

Jamie Chung
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that actress Jamie Chung has been cast as Mulan, a figure from Chinese legend and heroine of Disney's 1998 animated "Mulan" film.

Chung was Amber in "Sucker Punch" and also had a role in "The Hangover II." She will also be in the RZA's upcoming kung fu film, "The Man with the Iron Fists."

Mulan is a legendary character from the Chinese poem, "The Ballad of Mulan," which follows her as she disguises herself as a man and joins the army in place of her father.

According to the report, the character will have a recurring role during the series' second season.

Her son Henry (Jared Gilmore, "Mad Men") is convinced she is the one destined to break the curse and return everyone home.

Created by "Lost" writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, the series tells dual story lines each episode, dealing with the present day in Storybrooke and the characters' pasts in the fairy tale land.

It also stars Josh Dallas as Prince Charming/David Nolan, Ginnifer Goodwin ("Big Love") as Snow White/Mary Margaret Blanchard and Robert Carlyle ("Stargate Universe") as Mr. Gold, known in the fairy tale land as Rumpelstiltskin.

Lindelof co-wrote "Prometheus" for director Ridley Scott as well as J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek 2." He was also recently called in to re-write the troubled "World War Z" adaptation.
