The cast of Tom Cruise's sci-fi thriller "Oblivion" continues to grow with the news that "Game of Thrones" star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is joining the project.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski ("TRON: Legacy") and based on his graphic novel, the film will be set in a future in which most people live in the sky with the surface unlivable and crawling with deadly aliens. A repairman on the surface (Cruise) discovers a crash-landed pod containing a woman, changing his life forever.
According to Deadline, Coster-Waldau, who is portraying Jamie Lannister in "Game of Thrones," will play Sykes, a military and weapons expert.
Coster-Waldau's involvement comes on the heels of the news, also broken by Deadline, that Morgan Freeman ("Wanted') has joined the cast as well. His role is not known at this time.
William Monahan ("The Departed," "Kingdom of Heaven") wrote the screenplay. The film is set for a July 19, 2013, release with production expected to begin this fall.
