'Jurassic Park 4' has two new writers

After languishing in limbo for years, "Jurassic Park 4" has a pair of new writers.

The first film debuted in 1993.

Deadline reports that "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver have been tapped by Universal Pictures to pen the script.

The franchise began in 1993 with the Steven Spielberg-directed "Jurassic Park," based on the book by Michael Crichton. It was followed in 1997 by "The Lost World: Jurassic Park," which was again based on a Crichton novel. "Jurassic Park III" arrived in 2001. Combined, the three films grossed $1.9 billion worldwide.

The third film earned significantly less than the first two and a fourth film has never been able to get off the ground. Even with the new of new writer, the project is anything but a guarantee.

According to Deadline's report, Spielberg will not return the fourth installment, but will produce along with Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall.

Universal plans to re-release the original "Jurassic Park" in 3D in July 2013.

'Rango' the big winner at the Annie Awards

While traditionally Dreamworks Animation has ruled the Annie Awards while Pixar takes home the gold at the Academy Awards, it was Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies which drew first blood this year with Gore Verbinski's "Rango" the big winner at the 39th annual Annie Awards, which were held Saturday evening at UCLA's Royce Hall.

"Rango" was the big winner Saturday.

"Rango" took home the awards for Animated Feature, Writing in a Feature Production, Editing in a Feature Production and Character Design in a Feature Production.

While Verbinski shared the writing award, he lost out in the directing category to Jennifer Yuh Nelson for Dreamworks Animation's "Kung Fu Panda 2." That film was also awarded for Production Design in a Feature Production.

"Tintin," which recently took home Best Animated Feature at the Golden Globes, was awarded twice Saturday for Music in a Feature Production for John Williams and Animated Effects in an Animated Production. Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg's first foray into feature animation was snubbed and will not be among the nominees for the Academy Awards later this month.

In the television categories, "The Simpsons" took home the top prize for Best General Audience Animated Television Production.

Steven Spielberg and Stephen King to bring 'Under the Dome' to Showtime

Steven Spielberg and Stephen King are partnering to bring the author's 2009 novel "Under the Dome" to Showtime as a series.

The novel was published in 2009.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project will be produced by DreamWorks Television with King as executive producer along side DreamWorks TV's Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.

The novel follows a small town in Maine which is suddenly closed off from the rest of the world by a impassible force field, and how the residents trapped inside react.

This isn't the first time Spielberg and King partnered on a project. In 2006, they tried to bring King and Peter Straub's "The Talisman" to TNT as a six-part mini-series but the project ultimately fell through due to budget concerns.
