Two new promo images revealed for 'Riddick'

With less than two months before the release of "Riddick," the third film in the sci-fi action series starring Vin Diesel in the title role, two new promo images have been revealed by the film's Twitter account as well as Diesel himself.

The film's Twitter account revealed this promo image.

In the Sept. 9 release, Riddick (Diesel) is left for dead on another barren world and must fed off an attack of not only a band of bounty hunters but the planet indigenous, and deadly, inhabitants. "Riddick" brings the series back to its roots with a story very similar to 2000's "Pitch Black." Just how the new film ties into the 2004 sequel "Chronicles of Riddick," which ended with the Furyan as the new leader of the Necromonger empire, remains to be seen.

The new film also stars Karl Urban ("Star Trek"), Katee Sackhoff ("Battlestar Gallactica"), Dave Batista ("The Man with the Iron Fists"), Nolan Gerand Funk ("Awkward") and Noah Danby ("Defiiance").

"Riddick" was written and directed by David Twohy, who was also responsible for the first two films.

First poster for 'Dredd' arrives

Judgement is coming this September and we now have the first promotional materials for the upcoming "Dredd" in the form of a movie poster.

The movie arrives Sept. 21.

JoBlo (found via Comingsoon.net) had the first look at the new poster along with two other photos, which were posted Friday.

The film is based on the British comic "Dredd," which was also the basis for the 1995 Sylvester Stallone film "Judge Dredd."

The new version, directed by Pete Travis ("Vantage Point," "Endgame") and written by Alex Garland ("28 Days Later"), stars Karl Urban ("Star Trek") in the title role. The cast also includes Lena Headley ("Game of Thrones") and Olivia Thirlby ("The Darkest Hour").

According to the synopsis, "Dredd" is set in a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner. There a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO. 

"Dredd" is set for release on Sept. 21 and is rated R for strong bloody violence, language, drug use and some sexual content.

Filming underway on 'Riddick'

"Riddick" will be actor Vin Diesel's third turn as the titular antihero.

Universal Pictures, One Race Films and Radar Pictures announced today that principal photography has begun on the action-driven, sci-fi thriller "Riddick." The shoot will take place in Montreal.

The latest chapter of the saga that began with 2000's hit sci-fi film "Pitch Black" and 2004's "The Chronicles of Riddick" reunites writer/director David Twohy ("A Perfect Getaway," "The Fugitive") and star Vin Diesel (the "Fast and Furious" franchise, "xXx)". Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.
